Ivo's 4!!!

Ivo had an excellent 4th Birthday!

Andrew got in from Toronto late last night:)

Ivo and Gail made Ivo's cheese(bday)cake.

We all went 10-pinning- super fun - Ivo did better than the adults!

And a long overdue Ivo Overheard:

• Ivo has taken to wearing an oversize pair of clear-lens glasses that he bought at Feng Jia Night Market about a week before we left Taiwan. He claims to not be able to see without his glasses and has said, “In Taiwan, I could see with my great eyes but in Canada, I have to wear my glasses all the time cuz of the wind (hand rippling across the air from one ear to the other) and the fog (both hands shielding his eyes).”


• Ivo had blood drawn last Friday. After the screaming and gnashing of teeth, as the river of tears ebbed, the phlebotomist asked Ivo if anyone special was coming to his house next week. Ivo nodded and sniffed. Who? “U-U-Uncle Andwew!”


• While getting ready to work with clay, I asked Ivo if he was gonna open the air-tight container. He said, “Yep… Cuz I’m strong.” After he opened it – which was a little bit of a surprise to both of us- he marveled, “I didn’t need help cuz I’m a strong strong guy!”


• While doing clay, listening to D+, “Why they say ‘…friends for enemies…’?” – he likes thesong but only yesterday really heard the words – and boy, do they resonate for a super-hero-kid!


• While watching Horton Hears a Who, “Why all the big animals want to take away Horton’s clover?” and “Why da girl kangaroo don’t hear it?” He seemed to like the movie but really didn’t get the central conflict of western civilization; that people can care so much about what you believe or don’t believe that they’ll use extreme violence to squelch out incorrect thought.
• After I told him I need a break from the “whys” Ivo said, “…but I say ‘why’ all the time cuz I wanna know what’s happening…”
